Noble Friends,

Today the History Blog is reporting on the discovery of stone cannonballs
believed to have been used the the real-life Count Dracula in a siege. The
ammunition was recovered from an excavation at Zishtova Fortress in
Svishtov, Bulgaria. Dracula, or Vlad Tepes / Vlad the Impaler captured the
fortress from the Turks in 1461:

Vlad Tepes wasn't a very nice man, especially to the Turks. One man's
terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, and Vlad is regarded as a
patriot by many Bulgarians today. Whether he acted from patriotism or from
purely selfish motives (likely both) is open to debate and interpretation.
You can read a brief bio of this complex man at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_the_Impaler .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
