Given how many stories like this include the article being--almost--trashed
before their true significance is discovered, it would be heartbreaking to
learn how many equally priceless artifacts never get rescued from the
garbage heap (although maybe not as heartbreaking as how many we know have
been burned).

It sounds like if less specialized experts had gotten ahold of this one,
they might've declared it a Victorian fake!
