Noble Friends,

On this date in 1444 the pioneering Flemish master Robert Campin died.
Campin's work pushed art to new heights of realism through the use of oil
pigments. Campin is now identified as the previously unknown Master of
Flémalle.
Only a few paintings can be attributed to Campin, because he never signed
or dates his works, and some of his paintings may actually be works from
students in his studio. He is known to have been a teacher of Rogier van
der Weyden.

A gallery of his works can be seen at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Campin . Take particular note of the
furnishings, windows, fireplace surrounds, and bric-a-brac in his interior
views. There is much we can learn about 15th century homes from these
objects.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
