Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Castle Geeks,

Today the History Blog is reporting the possible discovery of the actual
birthplace of King Henry VII. There is little doubt he was born at Pembroke
Castle in Wales, seat of his uncle Jasper Tudor. An aerial survey of the
site revealed traces of a previously unknown manor house within the caste
walls. A test excavation has shown foundations from a substantial building
built with high-status materials.

The whole story is found at http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/52677 . I
expect BBC Wales will soon have a feature on the excavations. If so, I will
post the link here.

Wikipedia offers a history of Pembroke Castle at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pembroke_Castle . Pembroke Castle naturally
has its own web page, currently with a description of the excavation, at
https://pembrokecastle.co.uk/events/view/archaeological-excavation-2018 .
More general Pembroke Castle photos can be seen at
http://netwales.com/castles/pembroke-castle/ .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
