Noble Friends, Especially Vikings:

I've been sitting on this story for a week now, waiting for a slow newsday
in history. Today's sources were an absolute yawn, so now is the time.

The website Virtual Hebrides has pages highlighting a reconstructed mill
and associated kiln dating from the Viking/Norse occupation on the Isle of
Lewis. While simple by modern standards, the Shawbost mill displays
extremely clever use of water resources and mill technology. Surprisingly,
the mill was in use into the 1930s, though no doubt reconstructed countless
times. As a lover and student of milling technology in the US, I am
impressed.

The mill text and numerous photos can be found at

More is at https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lewis/norsemill/index.html
.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
