Here's one for the Odd Box. On this date in 1091, London was devastated by
a tornado. The storm has been estimated to have been F4 in strength. The
then-wooden London bridge was destroyed, the roof torn from St. Mary-le-Bow
church, and some 600 dwellings were seriously damaged:

One doesn't normally think about a tornado striking normally placid
England, but this incident shows it can happen anywhere.
