Noble Friends,

Today the BBC is reporting on plans to relocate tennis courts on part of
the former abbey at Bury St. Edmunds. St. Edmund of East Anglia is thought
to be buried beneath the clay courts in the old monks' cemetery. St. Edmund
was the king of East Anglia who was used for target practice by some unruly
Danes in 869 when he refused to renounce Christianity to save his life.

England already has a Car Park King, so why not a Tennis Court King? There
is no indication in the story that a search for St. Edmund's grave is in
the offing, but the temptation would be tremendous.

The whole story, with photos, is found at

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
