Noble Friends,

On this date in 1297, Francesco Grimaldi captured the Rock of Monaco by a
ruse. Dressed as monks, he and a follower gained entrance to Monaco's
castle. They were followed by a commando force which seized the castle.
Such is the stuff of Hollywood costumed adventures, but this really did
happen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/François_Grimaldi

Francesco died childless, and the current Grimaldi rulers of Monaco are
descended from his cousin Rainier I, Lord of Cagnes.

You can see the Rock of Monaco as it is today at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_of_Monaco . Note that that the rock
appears to be surrounded by marinas holding the yachts of the rich and
famous. Monaco has the highest number of millionaires per capita in the
world, and that's what millionaires do--buy yachts. More about the
Principality of Monaco can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco
.

Yours Aye,
