Noble Friends,

On this day in 1466, Margaret of York, who would eventually become Queen
Consort to Henry VII, was born. It was also on this day in 1503 that she
died--what a birthday present. Margaret died from complications of
childbirth.

Henry VII had hoped that is marriage to Margaret would bring Yorkist
support to his side in the last phase of the Wars of the Roses. It didn't,
nor did the marriage help much after the Battle of Bosworth where Henry won
the crown. There was too much bitterness on both sides, and the dream of
seizing back the throne was too much for some ambitious Yorkists.

Margaret was survived by three children from her eight known pregnancies.
Her eldest daughter, Margaret Tudor, became Queen of Scots. Another
daughter became Mary, Queen of France. A son, Arthur, should have become
King, but died at the age of 16. This left a younger son Henry to succeed
his father as the infamous Henry VIII of England.

It is from Margaret Tudor and her son by James IV of Scotland that the
current British royal family traces its line.
