Noble Friends,

Didn't I promise you that there would be more about Richard III and his
discovery beneath a parking lot in Leicester? Today on the five year
anniversary of the confirmation of the bones as Richard III, the BBC has a
brief illustrated piece about people whose lives were changed by the
discovery. These include the London cabinet maker who supplied the DNA
sample that linked the bones to Richard's sister's known descendants, the
carpark attendant who watched the excavation and then lost his job, and the
musician who composed a song about Richard that has led to gigs all over
the world.

None were changed more than Dominic Smee, a chap with a curved spine nearly
identical to Richard's. The shy, unconfident man was changed forever when
he became Richard's "body double" and trained as a knight to demonstrate
how Richard could have fought with his disability. Mr. Smee was the star of
the PBS documentary RESURRECTING RICHARD III (still available on DVD, and
highly recommended:

).

The BBC story is here:

So I will say it again--this isn't the last we will hear about Richard III,
"The Carpark King".

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
