Noble Friends,

Today the BBC is offering a brief feature on Humphrey Llwyd, a Welsh
cartographer who drew the first stand-alone map of Wales. His map was
published in 1568, the same year he died. The map and his life will be
celebrated in an exhibition at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth
beginning today: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-45241579 .

Wikipedia has a nifty biography of Llwyd, which mentions many of his other
works and accomplishments, including his private library being the
foundation of the British Library collection:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humphrey_Llwyd .

An impressive digital version of Llwyd's map can be found at the National
Library of Wales web site:
https://www.library.wales/discover/digital-gallery/maps/maps-of-wales/cambriae-typus/
. Surprisingly, there is no digital display of the exhibition itself, just
a press release. (Snore!) The map page also has links to several resources
about Humphrey Llwyd.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
