Noble Friends,

On this date in 1576, the corner stone was laid for Tycho Brahe's
observatory, the Uraniborg on the Baltic island of Hven. The observatory
was extremenly costly, and was financed by the Danish government. It was
later replaced by a second observatory nearby, known as Stjerneborg. After
a falling out with the Danish king, Brahe abandoned both sites in 1597.

You can learn more about Uraniborg at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uraniborg .

A separate site has brief information about Stjernborg at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stjerneborg .

A biography of the very colorful Tycho Brahe (including how he got his
famous prosthetic nose) is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tycho_Brahe .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge 🦆
