Noble Friends, Especially Normans:

Today the BBC is offering a brief illustrated story about the wooden doors
at Chepstow Castle in Wales. Tests show these doors are the oldest
surviving castle doors in Europe, dating to around 1190. They were probably
erected on the orders of the famous knight Sir William Marshal while he

In addition, Chepstow was the first stone Norman castle raised in Britain,
with construction beginning in 1067, shortly after the Battle of Hastings.
