Noble Friends,

On this date in 1269 the current building known as Westminster Abbey was
consecrated: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Abbey .
Construction of the present church began in 1245 on the orders of King
Henry III.

Although it served as a cathedral (meaning the seat of a bishop) from
1540 to 1550, Westminster Abbey is neither a cathedral nor an abbey
today. It is a "Collegiate Church", meaning it is staffed by a college
of canons (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collegiate_church ).
Westminster Abbey is not part of any diocese, but is rather a "Royal
Peculiar", an institution answerable directly to the sovereign.

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
