Noble Friends, Especially Vikings:

On this date in 845 an army of Viking warriors sacked Paris. The Vikings
were thought to have been led by the semi-legendary chief Ragnar
Lodbrok, the central character in THE VIKINGS television series. The
Vikings were bought off by Charles the Bald for 7,000 French livres in
gold and silver. Probably a bad move, since it just encouraged the
raiders to come back for more in 885.

For more on the siege and sacking go to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Paris_(845) . More about the real
Ragnar Lodbrok can be found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnar_Lodbrok . For the story of the 855
attack, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Paris_(885–86) .

Yours Aye,

Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge
