Noble Friends of the Bow,
After some debate about whether to shoot at all this Sunday, your
marshals have decided 94 degrees is too hot to be out in the sun for
three hours. So we've decided on a shorter alternate program.
We are going to shoot two warm-up ends of six arrows at 15 yards. Yes, I
know that's odd, but keep reading. This will be followed by a prize
shoot. There will be fabulous prizes (actually some pretty good stuff)
for the top-scoring adult and top scoring youngster. We're bringing
extras in case of a tie. Lady Sarah and I may shoot, but we're
disqualified from winning. We haven't done a prize shoot in a long time,
and we hope it will be fun for you all. After that we will break down
the range and repair to the Oxfords' house for air conditioned comfort.
What the prizes will be is a deep, dark secret. No hints.
Now to the finger shaking. We're going to start set-up at 1:00 sharp,
and because we will have only one shooting line and one very portable
target (not our usual huge monster), this should go very fast. Then we
will gear up guests without equipment, and do inspections for the rest.
I expect that once the inspections are done, I will be the only
warranted marshal on the range. Once we open the range and begin
shooting there will be NO inspections for late-comers. Having to shut
down the line to gear up late arrivals simply isn't fair to the archers
already on the line. This has always been our policy when we have held
prize shoots (actually that's why we started them, a carrot-and-stick
policy). If you want to participate, please be on the field at 1:00 or
as close to that as you can.
Apply sunscreen and tank up on liquids for hydration.
Yours Aye,
Lord Mungo Napier, Isenfir Target Archery Marshal-in-Charge
