Here's something very different from the usual historical anniversary.
In 1465, skies over Europe and much of the rest of the world darkened,
snow and rain fell for months, temperatures dropped, crops failed, and
all sorts of other calamities struck. The likely culprit was a massive
volcanic eruption somewhere in the Pacific. Many clues are found in ice
cores, but nobody can pinpoint the offending volcano. The BBC's story is
interesting, particularly for its effect on Europe during our time
