Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots:

Today BBC Scotland is reporting on the discovery of a tree that legend
claims to which William Wallace was chained before he was turned over to
the English. Tradition says they chains were renewed by locals each time
they rusted away. The tree blew down in 1995, but portions with embedded
chains were found in the stump. There is no proof to the legend, or that
this is the named tree, but the story is interesting. Here is the story
and images, including a controversial shot of Mel Gibson from
BRAVEHEART: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-38747871 .

Wallace is commemorated by the Wallace Monument near Stirling:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_Monument . The Monument used to
display an unpopular statue of Mel Gibson as William Wallace by artist
Tom Church. After the statue was repeatedly vandalized, it was returned
to the sculptor. The artist offered it to Donald Trump for one of his
golf courses, but even he didn't want it.

The monument displays what is claimed as Wallace's sword, though most
experts believe that the sword has no historical association with the
hero. The sword was known to have been sold to King James VI as
Wallace's weapon. The king had the blade re-hilted:

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Proud Scot
