Noble Friends,

May 12 is the anniversary of the marriage of Richard I (aka "The Lion
Hearted") and Berengaria of Navarre in 1191. The marriage was arranged
for political reasons by Richard's mum, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Whether
the union was ever consumated is not known, but there was no issue.
Richard was more interested in killing infidels, plus any Christians who
proved unruly, and hanging out with his pals. He spent very little time
with his Queen. After Richard's death, Berengaria retired to her own
estates in France, annoyed King John for not paying the pension due to
her as dowager Queen, did good works, prayed a lot, and eventually took
the veil before her passing in 1230. You can read more about her at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berengaria_of_Navarre .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
