On this day in 1580, Phillip II of Spain (of Armada fame) declared the 
Dutch Protestant leader William of Orange an outlaw and offered a 25,000 
crowns for his death. William, also known as "The Silent" was one of the 
most capable leaders of the Protestant and Dutch forces in the 80 years

Orange was assassinated by Balthasar Gérard using two wheelock pistols 
on 10 July 1584. William the Silent's descendants include King William 
III of England, and the current royal line of Holland.
