Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots,

Today's featured Wikipedia article is a biography of Óengus I (modern
spelling: Angus), King of the Picts, who reigned from 732 to 761. Óengus
is said to have conquered and united the various Pictish factions, then
turned his attention to conquering the ethnic Irish kingdom of Dal Riata
in western Scotland. He next tangled with the ethnic British/Welsh
kingdom of Alt Clut (later Strathclyde). He also fought against
Northumbria, then alongside them against Mercia. One may suppose his
wars were a matter of "conquer or be conquered", but Óengus comes off as
a pretty brutal character, though a successful one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Óengus_I .

Óengus is associated with the St. Andrews Cathedral and may have been
one of its founders: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Andrews_Cathedral
. The 8th century St. Andrews Sarcophagus is thought to have been
commissioned by Óengus:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Andrews_Sarcophagus .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Whose Ancestors Were Probably from Alt Clut
