Noble Friends,
On this day in 1499 Catherine of Aragon was married (by proxy) to Arthur
Tudor, Prince of Wales. The couple actually married on 14 November 1501.
Their happiness was shortlived, as both caught the "sweating sickness"
and Arthur died on 2 April 1501. In order to not return Catherine's
dowry, the tight-fisted Henry VII offered his second son as a
"replacement" groom. Marriage to Henry did not take place until 1509
when he had already assumed the throne. And the rest, as they say, is
history.
You can read about Catherine's rather sad life at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_of_Aragon .
Yours Aye,
Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
