The History Blog is featuring a very interesting story on the recent 
discovery of a treasure hoard from Oxfordshire containing Saxon coins

The combined hoard is unusual. Even more important are some of the 
coins, which point to close cooperation between Alfred the Great of 
Wessex and King Ceolwulf II of Mercia.
