[MR] Recruitment -- Colleges

My daughter was a renaissance studies major at a small college
in Virginia. This is a ready-made group. The local barony was
contacted several times. There was no response.

A small, private college in our barony recently held a medieval
festival. Our Barony was invited to attend, participate, and to
hand out literature/information. Two members showed up -- one of
them was a student in the class who had to be there.

It isn't any good to grumble about college kids not coming out or
joining in if we are going to ignore them and not put ourselves
out there. SO don't come griping to your chatelaine if you aren't
willing to step up to help with the effort.

I had a similar problem back in my college days--actually went so far as to
contact the group local to me, but since I didn't have reliable (or any)
transportation beyond my own two feet, it was another ten years before I
actually joined up and started going to events. In the meanwhile, the
local boffer-larp drew me in, as I had several friends on campus who
played, and they all either had a car or knew someone who did.
Transportation matters.
