Noble Friends,

Next round of the Richard III saga: Officials at Leicester Cathedral have announced that Richard is to be buried under the chancel floor beneath a flat ledger stone. There is already a memorial stone in that spot, which would be replaced with a new, but similar, marker: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-21768730 . Now if you will remember, the Richard III Society had plans for an above the floor table tomb: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-21427369 (I think quite tasteful, and appropriate to Richard's era). Apparently this is unacceptable to the Cathedral authorities due to space considerations.

So how does this affect controversy over whether Richard should be buried in York or Leicester? Quite possibly it will be more ammunition for the York crowd, who claim that Leicester won't give the very-late king the respect he is due. I'm surprised there has been no BBC report of a York response, but there will probably be one shortly. I can't believe the Yorkists will miss this chance to bolster their case.
Like I often say, "Stay tuned!"

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, The Archer of Mallard Lodge
