This morning the BBC is featuring a delightful story and video about Matthaeus Schwarz, a 16th century German accountant, who kept an illustrated diary of his wardrobe for 40 years: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22766029. The book still exists, and it has recently been studied for the first time. The story features several watercolors from the book, and a delightful video showing a modern model being dressed in a recreation of one of Schwarz's outfits, complete with an elaborate codpiece.
