Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Scots:

BBC his reported the discovery of a letter from Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, to Edward II. The 1310 letter is a request for peace between the two kingdoms, and recognition of Scotland's independence: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-22734279 . Not surprisingly, Edward II refused Robert the Bruce's assertions. In 1314 he came north with a huge army to relieve the English garrison at Sterling Castle. Thanks to bad generalship on the part of the English, and a battle plan carefully crafted by the Scots on ground of their choice, the English army was slaughtered at Bannockburn by a much smaller Scottish force. A treaty a few years later gave Bruce everything he has asked of Edward in the letter. The treaty lasted but ten years before the next English king, Edward III, invaded Scotland again with far more success.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
