We are probably all familiar with the idea of ransoming captives defeated in battle. It was pretty standard stuff in the later middle ages. Today the BBC has a brief text piece on this practice that you might enjoy. Also note the lead photo of a much younger Judi Dench and Robert Hardy (you know him as the Minister of Magic in the Harry Potter movies). It was this 1960 role as Henry V that started Hardy on his lifelong interest in archery and made him one of England's leading historical experts on the longbow.
