Noble Friends,
According a BBC story, a Victorian-era painting of Richard III has been sold to the University of Leicester: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-21601235 . The painting shows Richard departing the Blue Boar Inn for his fatal appointment with a Welsh halberd. According to most historians, Richard stayed at the Blue Boar on his last night before the Battle of Bosworth. What makes the painting special is that the Blue Boar was still standing when the painting was made, and it is important for showing how this building looked (at least in the 19th century). A view of the painting is shown with the text of the story.
For those of you who may have missed it, a model of the Blue Boar was built by researchers at the University of Leicester: http://www.le.ac.uk/richardiii/history/blueboarinn3d.html , and other research on the inn is presented at: http://www.le.ac.uk/richardiii/history/blueboarinn3d.html , along with an interactive plan which can be rotated to see the building from various angles: http://www.le.ac.uk/richardiii/history/blueboarinnexplore.html . Now, one wonders which room the doomed King slept in.
Yours Aye,
Lord Mungo Napier, The Archer of Mallard Lodge
