M'Lady Kateryn and Friends,

Yeah, the tour guide's logic does seem a little fuzzy. But there may be other things going on here we can't see. Like church politics. I found it interesting that York Minster turned down the burial.

One might have thought Her Majesty would have asked for Richard III to be buried in Westminster or Windsor, but no. I personally suspect that the Queen bowed out to avoid involving the crown in a public squabble. She's had enough trouble with her dysfunctional family's public peccadillos for several lifetimes. There's also the touchy question of sharing her own eternal resting place, or the sacred coronation space of her successors, with a suspected child murderer. Richard III could be seen as a "hot potato" by Her Majesty.

Who knows, but isn't it fun to speculate on all this?

And by the way, if you have a moment to spare, please read "The Tale of Mungo Napier" (link below in the signature block). It is only about one typewritten page and should take less than five minutes. I keep wondering if anyone has noticed this link. Apparently not. :~(

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, The Archer of Mallard Lodge

The tour guide seems mightily confused to me, as the 'church' in York is an archbishopric and if anything should have precedence over all churches in its see. But admittedly I remember very little about the post-reformation organizational structure of the Anglican church. Even so...I can't imagine why a northern cathedral wouldn't bow to the archbishop of York.

Of course, I also can't understand why the family (ie, the Queen, who is Richard's however many times removed niece) doesn't get the final say. :-)
