Arts & Sciences at Day by the Black Sea, on May 11, 2013 at Optimist Farm
in the Barony of Windmasters' Hill!
There will be two arts & sciences competitions running throughout the day
from 9:30am to 3:30pm in the hall.
Largesse Competition - Enter anything that you would like to donate to
Their Excellencies of Windmasters’ Hill that They can either give to Their
Majesties, the kingdom, or the baronial populace as tokens and gifts.
Documentation is NOT required. Entries can simultaneously be entered into
the Themed Competition if the artisan so desires. The winner of the
Largesse Competition will receive a prize!
Themed Competition – Any art form goes! Fiber arts, woodworking, scribal,
poetry, jewelry – any craft may be entered, but it must fulfill two
requirements:
1) Each entry must fit one of the many themes of the event (May, spring,
Russia, nature, the Black Sea, etc. – anything you can argue)
2) Each entry must be introduced by a poem (not necessarily by the artisan)
that explains the entry’s connection to the event theme
The connection between an entry and an event theme can be as convoluted and
debatable as the artisan desires, provided their introductory poem makes a
good argument. Poems can be as simple as a rhyming couplet or as
complicated as an epic. They can be a haiku, a sonnet, a limerick –
anything.
Documentation is not required for the introductory poems, though it is
encouraged for the entries. Three winners will be chosen: Best Overall,
Most Thematically Appropriate, and Best Poetic Introduction.
