Noble friends,

New in the UVA Fine Arts Library: "TOMBS OF ILLUSTRIOUS ITALIANS AT
ROME", L'ALBUM DI DISEGNI RCIN 970334 DELLA ROYAL LIBRARY DI WINDSOR by
Fabrizio Federici and Gorg Garms. This interesting volume shows
prints/drawings of Italian tomb art mostly from the 15th century, with
some from the 16th, in HM Queen Elizabeth's collection. Tomb art has
long been one of the best sources of information on period clothing and
armor. The detail of these plates is fantastic, and will provide a lot
of ideas for men's gowns, ladies dresses, head wear, shoes, and armor.
There are also numerous heraldic devices. This book is a great resource
for late period costumers. Sadly, the text is all in Italian, though it
isn't hard to figure out who the people were, when they died, and where
their tombs are located. As usual, the text is followed by an extensive
bibliography, plus an index.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
(aka Garth Groff, UVA Libraries Cataloging Dept.)
