Noble friends,

Here is an interesting little BBC story about the Great Bed of Ware:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-17221436 . The bed
will soon return to Ware on loan from London's Victoria & Albert Museum
for a year. Lady Sarah and I made a special visit to the V&A to see the
bed on our second England trip in 2006. The Bed of Ware is HUGE,
especially because of its canopy and frame, even bigger than a
'California King'. It was built in 1590 as a tourist attraction (read
"sucker trap") for the White Hart Inn in Herfordshire. Its fame led
Shakespeare to mention the Bed of Ware in TWELFTH NIGHT, which probably
didn't hurt the White Hart's trade one bit.

You can learn more about the Great Bed of Ware at the V&A museum site:
http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/articles/t/video-the-great-bed-of-ware/ .
Wikipedia has a brief article with a few more illustrations at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Bed_of_Ware .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
