It was inked and stamped. I'm pretty sure the article/book chapter that talked about it was by David Starkey...it's probably lying around here somewhere...

Was this "signature" stamped into wax? Or do you mean that the signature was inked and then pressed onto paper?
If the latter, then it seems like it was one of the earliest of this to be done.
I wonder which English king was the first to actually be able to sign his name?
