On Saturday, Their Majesties Bryan and Brianna held several courts in Their
Barony of Stierbach at Baronial Birthday and Investiture. I had the
privilege of serving as Their herald. This is my accounting of the
business which was conducted.
In the morning, They did open a court. They then invited Flaithri and
Rhonwen, Baron and Baroness of Stierbach, to conduct Their final business
before retiring honorably from their toils as Baronage of Stierbach. Their
Excellencies' court will be reported later by Lord Bertrand.
After Baronial court closed, They did invite Sir Cian Conor MacQuaid and
Sir Richard Gilchrest and their households into court. For the work which
these two houses had done during the tenure of Flaithri and Rhonwen for the
Barony of Stierbach and the Kingdom of Atlantia, both houses were awarded
the King's Award of Excellence.
Flaithri and Rhonwen were then summoned and divested of their lands as
Baronage of Stierbach, so that they might take a well-earned rest.
Mors and Esperanza were invested as Baron and Baroness of Stierbach, using
the ceremony traditional to those lands.
Before Flaithri and Rhonwen were given leave to depart, they were created
as Baron and Baroness of the Court in thanks for their long and excellent
service. As they turned to go, Their Highnesses interrupted them once
again. Prince Vladimir asked that Baron Flaithri serve as His Rapier
Champion after Their Coronation, and Princess Kalisa asked that Baroness
Rhonwen aid her in organizing Their travels throughout the north. It came
as no surprise to any among the assembled populace that both accepted
graciously and readily.
Wiglaf Sieberthing was summoned and raised to the ranks of the nobility
with an Award of Arms. Their Majesties commented upon his work as Canton
MoAS, his teaching, bardcraft, brewing, and fighting.
Lady Ilaria de Gandia was made a companion of the Opal for her service. She
has been caught teaching the art of rapier far and wide, outside of the
bounds of her own group, and without regard to whom might ask. She has
been known to bear water to fighters at many tourneys, often including
those which she herself has entered. Her service in setting up and tearing
down the very lists in which she would be fighting was also noted and
commended by Her Majesty.
Baroness Celia of Rosedale was then summoned before Their Majesties.
Mistress Anne of Carthew read out a contract which the good Baroness had
entered into at some time past. The contract bound Celia to the study of
music under Anne's tutelage. Anne did charge that Celia was not holding to
the terms of the bargain, for she had been spending too much of her time
lately in other pursuits. In fact, she had even been known to travel long
distances to events solely to work and failed to bring even one musical
instrument, claiming that she would not have time for the use thereof.
Mistress Anne then implored Their Majesties to take such action as was
only just and fair and sought the redress of the Court for this failing.
King Bryan noted that he too had heard grumblings about the Baroness. It
seemed to Them that there might be an equitable solution that benefited
both aggrieved parties, and so They asked that the other party be summoned.
The Order of the Pelican was then invited into Court, where they did
express a desire that Celia join their ranks, sundering her contract with
her Peer in good and natural order. House Ravenstreet then took Celia away
to prepare her for her vigil in contemplation of elevation later in the day.
Before the Order did depart, Mistress Elisabeth MacAlester of Kintyre,
Principal of that august Order, did complain that there was another who was
equally worthy. She did not feel that Their Majesties should induct one
candidate while another worthy was also present and should be taken as
well. Elisabeth begged that Their Majesties allow her to bring forward the
candidate for Their consideration. Queen Brianna demurred that She must go
with Elisabeth on this task, and the pair did search the audience for a
suitable gentle. Their eyes eventually lit upon the unassuming Baron
Stefan of Cambion, who was dragged from his seat and placed in front of
Their Majesties.
After some words about the long work of Stefan in the dance community, Clan
Cambion took Stefan off to their tent, quite literally singing his praises,
to sit vigil as well. Their Majesties court was then adjourned as They
left to set both candidates on their vigils.
Later in the morning, Their Majesties gathered several of Their Baronage
and headed to the archery field to deliver recognition that was well
deserved by some whom they expected to find there. All but one of the
gentles were either not present at the event or attending to other
pursuits, and so Their court on the archery field did only recognize one
worthy.
Baroness Esperanza Susanna Fletcha was summoned from amidst the party that
had journeyed to the field, and presented the Silver Nautilus for her
research and work in creating excellent targets for the Kingdom Archery
Championship event several weeks prior. His Majesty noted that the targets
were almost too pretty to shoot. Court was again adjourned.
Evening court opened with the calling of Atlantia's children into the Royal
Presence. Her Majesty asked of them how their day had been, what they had
done, and if they knew why they were there. She then sent the younger
children after Lord Wiglaf, who bore the Royal toybox, entreating the elder
children to give the younger ones a head start. All of the children were
then released.
Their Majesties summoned the newcomers to come forward, encouraging them to
return often to our events.
Lady Amie Sparrow was created a companion of the Opal for her work in
furthering the Arts and Sciences. Her arts having been recognized already,
she was commended for her work in teaching, web ministering for the St.
Anne's Guild of Clothiers, and running competitions and displays at events.
The most recent example that had been brought to Their attention was her
work at Kingdom 30 Year.
Lady Marsaili Johnston was inducted into the Order of the Coral Branch for
her work in the Canton of Sudentorre. While she had certainly worked
previously in similar fashion, it was noted that within the past year she
had taught several classes, become the canton MoAS, assisted with a silent
auction, and organized a gift basket. She also often encouraged people to
try new things, inspiring many to take up entirely new skills.
Arthur of Linden and Medhbhin Liaden were summoned before Their Majesties.
Their works in the Arts and Sciences were noted. For Arthur's propensity
to make things from any material available to hand, especially boxes and
musical instruments, he was Awarded Arms. For Maven's work in sewing, card
weaving, doll making, hospitality, and simply making A&S happen within her
canton, she was created a companion of the Coral Branch.
Mors and Esperanza were then given leave to conduct Their first court as
Baronage of Stierbach. This court was reported elsewhere by Master Ii.
Lady Rowen ferch Rhys was summoned. Her work for the Atlantian Academie of
Dance was noted and she was awarded the King's Award of Excellence.
Baron Stefan of Cambion was summoned. Clan Cambion sang him into court,
after which the Order of the Pelican was invited to join Their Majesties.
After acclamations by the Baron Igor, Master of the Laure, and by the
Peerage there assembled that Stefan was indeed their Peer, Their Majesties
did take Stefan's fealty and create him a Master of the Pelican.
Gunnora Grimm was Awarded Arms for her work as chatelaine, welcoming
newcomers and providing hospitality to all.
Baroness Rhonwen was summoned into the presence of Their Majesties. Since
she arrived with quite a confused look upon her face, Her Majesty spoke to
her at length about the work that she had been doing in recent memory - as
Baroness, as scribe, as teacher, as cheerleader, and many other things.
She spoke of a group who had clamored to have Rhonwen counted amongst
them, and then gave me leave to summon that group. The Order of the Golden
Dolphin did then come forward, and Their Majesties did induct Her
Excellency into their midst.
Gavin of Blackwood was then called into the Presence. His work across four
kingdoms in rapier, marshalling, constabulary, and other odds and ends as
needed were praised. His comportment as a gentleman was also praised.
Their Majesties then saw fit to raise him to the ranks of Their nobility
by Granting his Arms.
Sanada Katsumi and Sanada Terasu were then summoned. Their dedication to
archery and to rapier were praised, as was the research and presentation of
their Japanese Samara personae and their willingness to work whenever there
was need. They were both Awarded Arms.
The Order of the Pelican was invited into court. Baroness Celia of
Rosedale was summoned into the Presence and processed forward to musical
accompaniment. Sir Aelfred, Dame Allasondrea, Princess Kalisa, and
Mistress Caitlin did speak moving volumes of her worth. After hearing her
oath of fealty,Their Majesties did bestow upon Celia the Order of the
Pelican.
Court was then closed and the populace adjourned to the feast hall.
After feast, Their Excellencies Mors and Esperanza did open court once
again. As reported by Master Ii, Lord Sigmani Reqvinn was inducted into
the Order of St. Roche. Their Majesties were not done with Their business,
however. They too wished to see Sigmanni, and did award him the Opal for
his long service in cooking feasts and working behind the scenes.
Lady Genefe Wolfelin was also created a companion of the Opal for her work
as Canton Cronicler, autocrat, and seamstress.
Palfi Jozza was then raised to the ranks of the nobility and created a
companion of the Coral Branch for her teaching of dance, along with archery
and atl-atl, storytelling, sewing, embroidery, and card weaving.
As there was no further business, Their Majesties did conclude Their final
court of the day.
This is a true and complete reckoning of the business conducted by Their
Majesties to the best of my record and recollection. I would appreciate
word of any noted discrepancy so that I might correct the record, should
that be required.
