Noble friends,

New in the UVA Fine Arts Library: DRESS AND IDENTITY, edited by Mary
Harlow (ISBN 9781407309422; our call number GT555 .F748 2012). This book
is a collection of contributed papers on various topics, several of
great interest to Scadians, sepecially clothing makers. "Anglo-Saxon
Woman: Fame, Anonymity, Identity and Clothing" by Gale. R. Owen Crocker,
discusses how women's clothing reflected their social roles. There are a
number of illustrations, including drawings of typical women's
accessories. "Representing Hierarchy and Homosociality: Vestments and
Gender in Medieval Scotland" by Penelope Dransart, is primarily
concerned with ecclesiastical vestments, and is illustrated by photos of
tomb effigies, and some tapestry images. "The Social Life of Museum
Textiles: Some Comments on the Late Antique and Early Medieval
Collection in the Ure Museum at the University of Reading" by Anthea
Harris,  is illustrated by numerous color photos of tapestry fragments,
most showing intricate detail and still-vibrant colors. The remainder of
the articles in this volume are on Greek or Roman subjects, which may be
of personal interest to our members, though they do not bear directly on
garments of the middle ages. Each article is accompanied by a
bibliography. There is no index.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Shire of Isenfir's Unofficial Librarian
(aka Garth Groff, UVA Library Cataloging & Metadata Services)

*Please forward as appropriate.*

Come join us for a day of fighting, friends, and food.

What: Windmasters' Hill Baronial Fighter Practice
Where: Honeycutt Park, 352 Devers Street, Fayetteville, NC
When: June 17, 2012 from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM

Google Map of Honeycutt Park: ?http://goo.gl/maps/4uPa

Honeycutt Park has ample parking, a large field, covered shelter, and
playground.

This practice will be an excellent opportunity for folks who would
like to work on melees in anticipation of Pennsic to do so. ?Both
armored and rapier train for the duration of practice, but to maximize
our numbers for melee, we ask those that fight both armoured & rapier
to start in rapier. Then, at 2:30 or so we have those fighting both
change into armored gear, and at 3:00 pm we begin armoured melee
drills.

We have received?permission?to conduct authorizations (armoured & rapier).

Also, Lord Bumba will be manning the grill, so please plan bring to
bring a protein and a side and/or dessert to share.

If there are any questions, please contact me
(baroness at windmastershill.org) or His Excellency
(baron at windmastershill.org).

See you Sunday!

Gratefully,
Adriana
