In some countries there were many activities that a girl/woman could
not participate in during her menses. One that comes immediately to
mind is sausage making in Spain. It was believed that having a woman
participate while she was bleeding would ruin the whole batch.
I'd have to dig into my library - part of which is still at the house -
to give
more examples. I'll try to stop by in the next couple of days to pick them
up.
