Come on, folks. This title reads like some kind of massed produced pottery you place under things - platters under whole boars' heads, plates under potted plants , etc. It's "underwear"

We've been chatting about this find over at the Armour Archive as well -- the surviving "undies" are apparently a bit too wide for a woman, and seem to resemble what we see in some men's undergarments of the time.
