16th Century English Blackwork
Come learn about blackwork from the time of King Henry up through Queen Elizabeth I. Elaine Landers will give a slideshow highlighting blackwork in portraits and extant examples followed by a broad overview of the different kinds of blackwork such as linear, repeating pattern, free form, fill patterns, outlined motifs, and speckling, etc. She will follow the overview by focusing on the types of patterns seen on the late 16th century blackwork jackets and where you can find those patterns to put on your own jacket. Finally try your hand at a make and take project utilizing free form black work and fill patterns to create a floral design to be used on a needlebook or pin cushion.
What to Bring: Embroidery hoop, scissors, and any magnifying equipment you might need (i.e. reading glasses).
Please RSVP to: Elaine at isilya at aol.com to let us know you are planning on attending. Please be sure to include your phone number, in case of inclement weather.
