they dont weigh 30bs, they weigh 30 oz which is much lighter than most
rattan swords. they are too thin to be considered with our current armour
standards and would not be felt through even the bare minimum armour. the
material is very cool and i think could be made into some standard of
construction that we might consider for the sca. however, ive seen it in
thicker and heavier constructs and it simply doesnt hit hard enough in my
opinion. it would be awesome to have a sword that would last beyond three
practices and one tourney.

follow the products link and look for trainers. They come in several
styles, from Gladius, to Oriental Sword Breakers, Bokkens, Tantos,
WakazashiI, Axes, hand and a Halfs, and even daggers. That variety is one
of the things that got me interested in them. The company also sells a
Machete modeled after the Gladius. I just bought one of those for period
hunting.

Wow, they look pretty cool!
Hmmmm - well, lessee, if that is not a rhetorical question; These things
weigh almost 30lb, so, how much does a rattan sword typically weigh?
If anyone wanted to use these, there'd be all those other weapons still done
in rattan, and of course these swords apparently come in only one size.
Also, how do they break - do they shatter, or bend, or what? And how long
would they stand up to use before breaking?
The only obvious advantage I can see at this point would be the actual edge
rather than tape-marked edge, and the appearance.

I know I've been out of the fighting loop for awhile and haven't kept up
with the ruling of the marshals but has anyone every thought of using things
like these in SCA
combat?http://www.ltspecpro.com/products/317-medieval-training-sword.aspx
