>Greetings to all from Chirhart Blackstar and Jeanne Tenneur de Bec, Baron and Baroness of Bright Hills.
>
>It is our sad duty this day to advise you all that the Barony of Bright Hills has suffered a great loss. On this Sunday past, January 29, 2012, His Excellency Temur of the Kerait passed away.
>
>Baron Temur was the second Baron of Bright Hills. He was part of Bright Hills from its very early days and served Bright Hills and the Kingdom of Atlantia well. He cared deeply about the Barony and wanted everyone to enjoy the SCA as much as he did. As Baron, he and Baroness Ekaterina (now Chagan) initiated the tradition of baronial hospitality and the infamous Bright Hills “light lunch”. For many years, they provided an introduction to the SCA by fostering a number of college students into their household, many of whom still think of him as Papa.
>For many years he served in the marshallate. He taught countless marshals, both on the field and in classes, and served as the MIC for many events. He was a familiar figure on the field throughout the northern part of the kingdom and beyond.
>While everyone recognized his contributions as a marshal, he also served as a deputy seneschal, as interim chronicler, and as an autocrat, among other less official roles. He also fostered the arts. He helped to make a set of baronial thrones, and also led a project to cast a large number of medallions for baronial awards. He even learned to use a dip pen (under protest) so that he could sign his name on baronial scrolls.
>He loved to fight. As Baron, he led baronial and household troops on the field of battle at Pennsic and won recognition of their successes.
>He loved to tell stories of the SCA and his life before he found it, and we all loved to listen. He considered himself a curmudgeon, but we recognized the generous heart underneath. We were lucky to have him for so long.
