Noble friends,

Today, 22 August, is the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth Field.
This battle was the last major engagement in the War of the Roses. The
Yorkist usurper, Richard III, was defeated and killed by the
more-or-less Lancastrian forces of Henry Tudor. Henry went on to have
himself crowned on the battlefield as the first king in the Tudor
dynasty, Henry VII.

Wikipedia has a very good account of the battle at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Bosworth_Field .

Today's featured picture on the Wikipedia main page is a portrait of
Margaret Beaufort, Henry's mother:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page . This picture is also found with
her biography at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Beaufort,_Countess_of_Richmond_and_Derby
.

There's enough history here to keep any of us happy for a couple of hours.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
