At Pennsic, many of the Atlantian spears were rebuilt by the Marshal's staff
using airsoft pellets rather than foam as padding. This tip is not an
approved thrusting tip for use on fiberglass spear shafts. Because of an
apparent mix up in communications between the Marshals at Pennsic, no one
was informed that this tip was only approved at the society level as an
experimental tip design.

 

If you had your Mandrake tip rebuilt this way, you will need to rebuild your
tip once again using foam to meet the requirements published March 28, 2011

Marshals should take care when inspecting these Mandrake tips to insure that
they contain sufficient padding to provide the required progressively
resistant give under pressure without allowing contact with the PVC end cap.
Because of the degradation of the foam that comes with the tips, fighters
may need to rebuild their Mandrake tips on a periodic basis.
