Noble friends,

Scotland still has literally hundreds of castles, many ruinous, others
extensively rebuilt in more recent times, and some restored or largely
unchanged. This brief BBC slide show presents five of the best;
http://www.bbc.com/travel/slideshow/20120424-great-scottish-castles .
My all-time favorite is probably Eliene Donan, the last slide in the
set. This high-level view is one rarely seen.

Just for fun, I've thrown in my own family's castle (both my real
ancestors' and of my SCA persona), Kilmahew:
http://www.clannapier.org/album/kilmahew1.htm . This is the earliest of
the three castles which were owned by various branches of the Napier
clan/family. This structure probably dates to the 15th century, but
there was some sort of Napier-owned dwelling here as early as the 1290s.
Kilmahew Castle is in Cardross village, about 30 miles west of Glasgow
and not far from the north bank of the Clyde. The other two Napier
castles are Merchiston Tower and Lauriston Castle, both near Edinburgh,
and both in use.

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, A Proud Scot
