Subject: Re: [Carolingia] [C-A] British antiquities at Boston College
Florian and I and an out-of-town friend spent a couple of hours there
Saturday afternoon. Informative information boards and tags, and
well-lit spaces. The focus is on the process, rather than the artifacts,
but both are fascinating (16thC county maps, Caxton printed volumes,
county heraldic records, Roman and Saxon grave goods... and the Winton
Domesday Book open to an account of somebody trying to put one over on
the tax collectors...).
Yeliz, thank you for the heads-up.

preservation, interpretation, and communication of s history. Among the 98
items on display are a copy of the Magna Carta from 1225 (about 10 years after
it was signed); the Winton Domesday Book, a 12th-century English
administrative document that records the landholdings in the city of
Winchester; a collection of panel paintings including royal portraits from
Henry VI to Mary I; works from the Arts and Crafts movement by William Morris;
rare books; and paintings and drawings by Samuel Palmer, Edward Burne-Jones,
and Augustus Welby Pugin.
