Greetings,
I would love to extend a huge THANK YOU to the staff of War of the Wings VI. As always, it was an awesome event. This is my "Pennsic", as it is for many.
There have been many items that have been mentioned already (dumping of firepits, people walking through encampments, etc) and I thought I would add to it!
1. Firepit safety - as part of our own precautions, we always keep a gallon of water next to our firepit at night to dowse it when we go to bed. This ensures that the coals in the bottom are not hot throughout the next day. It might not put out the fire completely, but it helps.
2. As far as people walking through the encampments.......can't say much here. We have, in the past, used sheet walls, but it didn't prevent people from walking through them during the event. This year, we used part of our list as a "sheet wall" to try to prevent it. We didn't have as much problems this year that we have had in the past. We were able to catch those walking through our camp and let them know, politely, that they did so. They were cool about it. The reason we didn't do our main sheet walls was because we need an auger to make holes for the poles and we didn't have anybody to drill them. We had fewer people camp with us this year.
I'm not sure that there really is any great solution to this problem, but it is an on-going lesson each year.
3. Though I didn't get to attend any classes or other main events going on throughout the weekend because of different reasons, I was happy that because WoW was an extra day this year, the option was still there. It would have been nice for other things going on throughout Sunday to do, but I got the time to walk around. Sadly, most of the merchants had left by the time I got around to purchase anything on Sunday. I understand that most people had to work on Monday. There is always another event, another WoW!!
4. Our Senechal, Gwen, hosted the Land Agent's Tea again this year, and I know that all of us in Seareach were pleased to have it and to those who made it Friday afternoon. I cannot speak for her directly, but Gise did mention that we out-did ourselves again this year!!
5. This WoW marked a very special occasion for me directly. I received my yellow belt Saturday after procession. Mistress Mordryn of Raven's Cove is my mentor and I look forward to our lessons. Appearantly, it is a unique thing to receive a belt BEFORE receiving an AoA. Whenever I receive my AoA, I will be happy but not as happy to have reeived such an honor. Also, I received news from Herald's Point that my name should pass within the next 8-10 months. YAY!!
There are so many things about WoW that I look forward to each year, and I can't wait to see what is planned for next year. All those involved in setting up the event, and the volunteers made a great event this year. I continue to hope that the event becomes more recognized each year by those who have never attended. WoW is my SCA birthday, and I hope it becomes that for a lot of new Scadians.
VIVAT! VIVAT! VIVAT!
