Greetings! I apologize for any crossposting, but this is your last chance to contact me if you wish to be a part of the poetry smackdown at KASF this February. (see description below). Please forward this post to any aspiring poets you know, as well.

ARE YOU READY TO RHETORATE?

For the last four years at KASF there has been held a GyrthOldcastle Memorial Poetry Smackdown, in which we have celebrated (and roasted)a variety of topics (and each other) in various poetry forms.

The 2012 KASF shallinclude a fifth installment which willfollow the same format as last years. This shall take place on Saturday, February 4that the Canton of Sudentorre in Spotsylvania, VA.

 In case you were notable to enter or attend last years, here is the low-down on the smack-down;

We are asking each participant to choose an actualhistorical persona from a time before 1600 to represent. That person should come from a time whosepoetry forms you feel you can attempt to write in. (So if you like to write Shakespeareansonnets, choose a historical figure who was around in the mid to late sixteenthcentury, for example. You could evenchoose to be Shakespeare, but could choose anyone).
We want all contestants to commit to entering beforeDecember 1st 2010 so that on January first we can then determine atrandom one other contestant for whom you will write a poem in praise and oneother person for whom you would write a poem ‘slamming’ them. (So if you were shakepeare it might bedetermined, at random, that you were going to be praising Joan of arc andslamming Snorri Sturluson, two other contestants, both in Shakespearean style) A third poem must be written as your entryfee- this can be in any period form onany subject but must include somewhere in the poem at least three words thatrhyme with Gyrth.

We want to encourage both new and experienced poetrywriters. Writing in a language otherthan English is NOT required. Actuallyshowing up to KASF is NOT required, though your poetry has to come and it willbe read aloud.
To make it more fun we are encouraging those who will cometo KASF to dress as the historical person you have chosen, but again this isnot required.

Former entrants- NOPICKING THE SAME PERSON YOU WERE LAST YEAR! If you want to write poetry in the same style, you could just pick adifferent person from the same era.

This contest is great fun. Last year I dressed as a nun. Apoet’s work is never done.
If you are interested in this contest, please contact me andlet me know. We usually find it more fun if you do NOT announce to other people who you are playing . . . just surprise everyone at KASF!

-In service,

Master Dunstan LeHeryngmongere.
