[MR] Kingdom events

I just love Camp JBP as an event site and am always
happy to see that an event will be there. It has everything
we think we need. The kindness and comsideration of
past autocrats has allowed me to participate in spite of
my considerable mobility issues. Better yet, it's only
a little over and hour's drive from my home.

Even so, I am opposed to the idea of centrally located
permanent sites for Coronation and Crown. Many good
reasons have already been discussed, but I'm not sure
I've seen this directly mentioned.

After 20 yrs. of play, during which time events have been
a point of study for me, I have become convinced that the more
events held in an area, the more SCA will grow in that area.
Revels, practices, ect. help as well. The more you have
going on, the more folks you can attract and hold. I strongly
disagree with those who fuss and fume about there being
too many "cookie cutter" events--especially in this time
of high travel costs.

I feel that all areas of the kingdom should have a shot at
hosting a kingdom event if they want to and can provide
the necessaries for that event Our Coronations and Crowns
are really something to see and sure to impress any new
folk who attend, but it's almost impossible to get a potential
new mwmber to drive several hrs. to check it out. I might
add that when I was able to autocrat, my primary interest
in bidding for a kingdom event was to bring such an event
to a location convenient for my barony.

Telling a group that they are "too far" one way or another
is to relegate them to a sort of secondary membership
in the kingdom and keep them at a disadvantage in
development. Of course, this means that some Coronations,
ect. will be much more elaborate and/or well attended than
others, but every one should have a chance. When a group
turns in the only bid for an event and gets turned down, it's
a bit of a slap in the face. If Atlantia is going to claim this
territory, then Atlantia should strive to develop it.

If the kingdom decides to make JBP the default site fot
Coronation and Crown, my personal eventing life will get
a whole lot sweeter.

In service to the dream,
Averey the Far Seeing
