[MR] kingdom level autocratting

Greetings Atlantia. While the discussion concerning kingdom level events
seems to be healthy, there is one aspect of all this that has not been
mentioned. and that is encouraging the person(s) taking on the
responsibility as Autocrat. At the last kingdom level event I served as
co-autocrat, I had SIX people offer their sympathies, and half declared they
would never autocrat a kingdom level event, ever. I did not think to ask
them why. I now wish I had. Upon asking around, I have heard that over the
years, there seems to be those who have been "burned" by attitudes,
frustrated by lack of information that allows them to plan ahead and do
their job effectively, the stress is too much, etc. There seems to be a
perception about kingdom level autocratting that needs repair.

We can define sites that are ideal and available, but without someone to
take the lead, we are no closer to a solution for this challenge. I
personally would be very leery of autocratting an event with two hours or
more drive time. My local barony (and a few close neighbors) make up the
team that makes me a successful autocrat. Often some show up for just a
couple hours to help set up or tear down as the mundane world allows. While
I am certain there are plenty of others that would be willing to step up
into those roles that are left void due to travel issues, new communication
channels/options must be created in order to facilitate that planning. The
Merry Rose is not sufficient as I know plenty of potential helpers that are
not on this list for whatever reason. And you cannot say that you'll just
wait to fill spots the day of. That is not good planning and causes
unnecessary stress.

A suggestion has been made concerning semi-permanent sites where there is no
profit sharing with the barony. This idea concerns me because some baronies
that do step up to host a kingdom level event in their area really NEED that
profit share. It is very difficult to turn a profit on small local events
especially when we find it more and more difficult to find a "free" weekend
or low cost facilities. And when the barony decides to pass on a local
event in order to focus on supporting a kingdom level event, that profit
share is even more important.

And a final thought. can we please TRIM our response posts?

:D

In service to the dream,

Mariana Francisco
