They have been used. The Armour Archive thread in which it was mentioned showed a couple of melee scenes with at least one of them in use.  And I think the SEM has used one himself.  He acts as a contact point for where they can be found; he gets his from somewhere in Idaho (which I consider an amusingly appropriate source).

hese are used in potato harvesters.  They've been green-lighted by the SEM.  
hey're fairly light, but hit with authority.  They cost about $10.  Information 
on distributors will follow.
